Losing weight can certainly be one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish, but there are easy ways to lose weight without having to commit to special diet and exercise routines. Here are 7 easy tips to help lose weight the healthy way and keep it off:

Eat Healthy Snacks

Snacking on fruits and vegetables instead of chips and cookies is one of the easiest ways to lose some immediate weight. Yogurt, granola, and whole wheat or grain crackers also make excellent choices. Avoiding salty foods will help prevent bloating and retaining water weight. Eating small snacks in between meals will help keep metabolisms up throughout the day and will prevent overeating at meal times.

Stay Hydrated

The average adult should drink about 9 cups of liquid a day. Although water is the best choice, most teas, 100% juices, milk, and black coffee are still acceptable. Avoid drinks with sugar, additives, concentrates, and excessive calories, and stay away from soda, even if it’s diet. People often mistake feeling thirsty for being hungry and will eat instead when a glass of water is really what their body needs. Try keeping a bottle of water handy throughout the day.

Eat Balanced Meals

Eating 3-5 balanced meals each day speeds the metabolism up. Make sure to include foods from across the food pyramid in each meal to ensure a healthy intake of the daily nutrients needed. Proteins, fruits, and vegetables are most important when trying to lose weight. Eating a variety of different foods each day will also help prevent getting bored with the same meals.

Pay Attention to Proportions

Lots of diets try to limit the types of foods to consume, but this isn’t necessarily the key to keeping weight off. Many people don’t last on these types of diets because they begin to crave the foods they can no longer eat. Instead of eliminating specific foods, just keep an eye on the proportions and serving sizes. Carbohydrates and sugars are still part of a balanced diet, just in very small serving sizes.

Exercise

Try to incorporate 20-30 minutes of moving around at least every other day. This can include putting in some time at the gym, but there are plenty of other ways to fit exercise in. Take the dogs for a walk, play with the kids outside, go on a hike, take a dance class, etc. Look for opportunities to walk more, like parking further away in a parking lot or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Avoid Fad Diets

Sure they sound amazing and maybe they produce instant results, but the reality is that a lot of people end up gaining back some of the weight they lost because they return to their old habits once the diet is complete. Long-term weight loss will only come from healthy lifestyle choices and consistency. Also, make sure to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any diet.

Use the Buddy System

Getting into a healthy weight loss routine is hard to do but is even more difficult to do alone. Having support makes it easier to stick to a consistent regiment. Spouses, family members, roommates, coworkers, and friends make excellent diet and exercise buddies. There are also a number of online support systems available. The most important thing is to stay motivated!

Following these 7 healthy weight loss tips will help keep the pounds off. They promote lifestyle changes that will help produce healthy and long-lasting results.
